In today s video we go over the basic techniques to installing drip edge and rake edge on your roof.
How to install rain drip on roof.
Lift the shingles slide the drip edge underneath them and position it so that it extends over the gutters then replace the shingles and push down to seat the drip edge.
Next carefully break the seal on a row of shingles above the doorway with a flat pry bar or putty knife.
However there is a way that you can redirect the rain off the roof so it falls harmlessly out of the way.
Secure the drip edge with roofing cement.
To install a rain diverter on your roof.
Make sure the corner is tight and that the bottom edge is tight to the fascia before nailing off the drip edge.
Installing drip edge on your roof.
You may need to nail through the starter strip into the drip edge.
If it doesn t pull the drip edge out slightly from under the shingles.
To install a drip edge on a newly constructed roof or on a re roofing job attach the drip edge along the roof s eaves first.
Once free slide the drip edge out and discard.
How to install a drip edge.
Slide the corner tight to the fascia.
With without rain gutters.
Apply roofing cement when installing drip edge on an existing roof.
Use a flat pry bar and hammer to pry the nails out of the drip edge gently.
Apply a continuous bead of cement along the top of the drip edge then press down on the shingle.
Coat the flat part of the flashing that sits on the deck using a putty knife.
Use a measuring tape to determine the length of the gutter.
This is important to protect damage to your fascia soffits rafters.
Measure the length of the roof that you re working on.

Make sure the outer edge extends over the gutter.
The roof leg should extend a minimum of 2 back onto the roof sheathing.
Place a nail at one end then the other.
Start by cutting the flashing with tin snips about 2 3 feet longer than the doorway you want to protect.

Gently lift up the shingles on the edge of the roof and locate the nails holding the existing drip edge onto.
Be sure to tuck the drip edge under the starter strip and felt paper.
