How to measure windows for blinds and curtains.
There are several ways to measure the length of the window as well depending on how low you want the curtains to extend.
At the left middle and right side.
If you re considering blinds and shades there are two ways to measure.
To measure for a valance measure the width of the window from the inside left of the frame to the inside right of the frame.
Not sure where to start.
For curtains touching the window sill also measure 1cm above.
This will be at least the width of the window frame but will generally be 1 2 inches more on each side depending on how much space you want them to cover.
From there multiply the width depending on your curtain type.
An inside mount that goes inside your window frame and an outside mount that extends beyond your window frame.
Measure the drop from window edge at the top to the bottom of the window or floor.
Extend the tape measure on the inside of the window from the top to its bottom to obtain the length that the mini blinds need to be.
Inside mount treatments are installed inside the window casing.
If uneven the shortest measurement will be used.
Measure from the sill to the bottom of the top casing in three places.
Measure the drop at 3 points to check your window is square.
If uneven the narrowest of the 3 measurements is to be used.
Don t forget to record window depth so you ll meet the minimum installation requirement.
If you would like your curtains to drop to the floor measure to 1cm from the floor.
Measure the width from window edge on the left to the window edge on the right at the top of the window.
Record the narrowest width and longest height.
Then to measure length measure downward from the inside top frame to where you want the valance to fall on the window.
There are hundreds of options when considering window treatments and coverings but first you need to measure your windows.
Measure from the top to bottom in each corner and the middle.
Extend the measurement by 50 100mm on each side to minimise light seepage and ensure proper fixing of the blind.
Options include measuring from the drapery rod to the window sill to a little below the sill or all the way to the floor.
