Smear a generous layer of the epoxy putty over the holes.
If you have been struggling with woodpeckers previously and now want to prevent them from coming back you should focus on repairing the damage they have left.
Insert the shim edgewise into the hole.

Allow at least 1 hour of drying time.
On a warm day mix the two materials with a putty knife then spread the mix over holes in the siding until the opening is completely covered.
Epoxy putty is a commonly recommended wood filler for use in repairing woodpecker damage.
Fill the siding holes with wood filler.
Use the putty knife to scrape away the excess then.
Sand down any excess wood filler and paint the patch.
Step 3 scrape away the excess putty and discard before the substance dries.
Use a putty knife to force the filler inside the hole making sure to fill in the hole and to completely cover the opening.
We recommend starting with plugging up the holes in siding holes roof shingles and trees.
To hold the shim in place for drying hang the hammer from the nail by its claw so that the weight of the hammer is gently pulling the shim tight against the hole.
Use the nail to pull it flush against the interior of the siding.
Use a putty knife to apply the putty liberally across the holes so it sinks in.
Feather the paint out for a seamless finish.
